Note that the parent orange-cheeked waxbills hatched one chick from this same nest, tossed it, and tossed it again when I put it back in the nest. The next day, they tossed an egg that was near hatching (similar to 3), then abandoned the nest altogether. I do not know why there were eggs at various stages of development in the nest at the same time.
